Ferry & Fog Interiors

A San Francisco design studio website with a built-in editor, made to show what it feels like to run a beautiful site without a developer or WordPress.

“Change anything. Watch the site update.”

The challenge

What will editing my website actually be like?

That is the real question for anyone thinking about leaving WordPress or about taking over a site an AI tool built for them. Screenshots and promises do not answer it.

Birdsall.ai needed a live, believable website with a working editor that anyone could open, change and test in the first minute. It had to look like a real studio’s site, because a design-led audience judges the front end first. And it had to show the editor doing real work, not a staged tour.

So we invented a studio. Ferry & Fog Interiors is fictional, and everything about it, from the clients to the press features, is made up for the demonstration. The website and PerchPanel are real, and you can use both.

The approach

Four decisions that shaped the build.

1. Design it like a real brand.

A warm, editorial look with generous photography, a custom display typeface and a calm palette. The front end had to hold up in front of designers, not only look fine in a demo.

2. Make every part editable.

Pages are built from sections you can reorder, hide or add. Projects, products, blog posts, events, the team, testimonials and the footer each have their own editor.

3. Fill it with real content.

No placeholder text. A complete portfolio, a shop, a library of fortified posts, a style quiz and press features, so the editor shows what a working site looks like.

4. Make it safe to explore.

Checkout runs in test mode, no email is sent, and search engines are blocked. The whole demo resets every night, so a visitor can experiment freely.

The website

A studio site that sells, teaches and gets found.

The editor

Every part of that site, editable by its owner.

PerchPanel is the dashboard behind the site. The owner changes a page, a product or a post, presses save, and the public site updates.

The outcome

A live answer to “what will editing be like?”

Ferry & Fog is a demonstration, so there are no client revenue figures to report, and the traffic, leads and orders in the dashboard are sample data. What it proves is the experience:

  • A visitor signs in with one click and can edit within seconds. No password, no install.
  • A change made in the dashboard appears on the public site as soon as it is saved.
  • Blog posts show a live checklist for the things that help Google and AI assistants find and quote them.
  • Roles let an owner give a teammate editing access or read-only access.
  • There are no plugins to update, because there are no plugins.

It is also proof of how we work: a design-led front end, AI-native production and an editor the owner controls. The same approach sits behind the commerce and content platform we built for FlipBird Studios.

Open it. Change something. See what happens.

The demo is live, free to use and resets every night. When you are ready for a site of your own, we would love to build it.
